Help & Advice on Behaviour & Training

If you are considering rehoming your Neapolitan Mastiff due to a training or behaviour problem, please consider getting advice from a qualified, professional behaviour consultant before making the final decision as, in many instances, it may be possible to deal with the problems before having to give up your loyal companion.

Please contact Jaq Bunn who may be able to help you to find a behaviour consultant in your area or help you directly if you live in the South East.  Neapolitan Mastiff Welfare may be able to help you with the fees if you live in the South East.

Aggression

It is with deep regret that Neapolitan Mastiff Welfare is currently unable to rehabilitate and rehome dogs displaying any type of aggression.  The reason for this is because we do not have a dedicated rescue centre and the funds required for creating one are simply out of our reach being such a small organisation.

At the moment it is important to remember that we currently have no foster carers that are equipped to take on dogs for indefinite periods until they can be rehomed, which is currently on average 3 months and sometimes longer to find the right home.

It is almost impossible to find people who are equipped and capable of taking on an aggressive dog into their homes for intensive assessment and behavioural rehabilitation but if you feel you have the necessary experience and rehabilitative environment to help us, we desperately need you and you could become a valued member of our team.

Behaviour & Training Advice for Rehomed Mastini

Please note that it is a clause of the Adoption Agreement that owners to come back to Neapolitan Mastiff Welfare first for any advice regarding the behaviour and training of their adopted Mastino.

There are many people out there calling themselves behaviourists and trainers who have no relevant or current qualifications or training and who are putting the lives of dogs at risk by providing inappropriate or dangerous advice.

If you are outside the catchment area of our consultant behaviourist we can help you to source a suitably qualified professional.

We cannot over-stress the importance of coming back to us for advice, no matter how trivial or serious the problem.  This breed has unique needs that require unique skills.

Please note that if you act on behavioural or training advice regarding your adopted Neapolitan Mastiff from any source not recommended by Neapolitan Mastiff Welfare we will not be able to assist any further as you will be in breach of contract (the Adoption Agreement you signed when adopting your mastino from us).

Don't put your dog's wellbeing and to put it bluntly - survival - in the hands of someone unqualified and inexperienced.

We are here to help for the remainder of the dog's life and will not judge if you have made mistakes...

Make us your very first call if you have a problem.
